ABOUT THE LAWYER

Trish Butcher

Trish Butcher is the founder of Arch Legacy Firm, an estate planning practice in Athens, Georgia. They specifically focus on the needs of young professionals and their families, special needs trusts, & business owners
THE PROBLEM

From Knowing Nothing About Estate Planning to a 7-Figure PFL® Practice

After attending Law School at Emory in Atlanta, Trish found herself working for the Medical Association of Georgia as in-house counsel and lobbyist for over 8000 physicians.

After leaving her job in Atlanta, Trish moved back to her hometown of Athens, where she opened a women’s only gym. However, after having her son, she closed the gym and faced a crossroads in her career.

Trish knew she wanted to use her law degree to make a difference, but she wasn't sure how.

She had experience working with healthcare professionals and thought about focusing on business law for that niche. However, she’d always had an interest in estate planning and upon discovering New Law Business Model decided to protect other families from the disaster hers had experienced.

“Looking back, I was always very interested in estate planning,” Trish recalled.

“And I think that grabbed my attention because of my grandmother's estate plan and how that epically failed. But I hadn't really considered it because I had no background in it.”

FINDING NEWLAW

Going All In On Estate Planning with NewLaw

In February 2020, just before pandemic hit, Trish discovered NewLaw's Estate Planning bootcamp.

She decided to take the plunge, recognizing that she would need help learning the ins and outs of delivering this legal service (as well as the systems needed to build a profitable business around it).

By August 2020, she was a fully designated Personal Family Lawyer®, and began taking on clients. She persuaded her sister, Stephanie, to join her in the business using the team-building guidance she received in the program.

“I literally don't know how I could have done it without her because she knows more about trusts than I could ever know at this point,“ says Trish.

THE SOLUTION

NewLaw’s Approach Made Building a Her Practice Much Easier

The Personal Family Lawyer® program and community provided Trish with the tools and knowledge she needed to build her estate planning practice:

  • Comprehensive legal training in how to offer estate planning in her community – instilling confidence she could successfully transition to this practice area
  • Business systems and automation through the Accelerator program – allowing her to take on more clients and grow her revenue month over month
  • Ongoing coaching, support, and accountability – ensuring she maintained forward momentum
  • A community of like-minded attorneys she now calls friends

Trish used these resources to quickly establish her practice, Arch Legacy Firm.

One of the biggest advantages for Trish was the automation systems provided by NewLaw's Accelerator program.

This allowed her to focus on networking and learning, while she was able to outsource parts of the business – like the tech and marketing– which she didn’t love as much.

THE OUTCOME

From Home Office to Owning a 5,000 sq ft Office Building

In just four years, Trish has achieved something remarkable.

She grew the team from 2 to 7 employees, and now owns a 5,000 sq ft building that she and her husband purchased.

She’s on pace to have her first $1 million year in 2025!

Even better, her husband retired from his corporate job and joined her firm as the CFO.

With a strong team in place, she has time and energy to focus on other entrepreneurial ventures, and even has a plan in place to sell her firm by the time her son is in college!

“We have 13 years till my son graduates from high school. The plan at that point is to pretty much retire [and] sell this business.”

PERSONAL FAMILY LAWYER

"In order to build that legacy, you have to commit to building it. And it's scary and it's a cliff, but... You just have to commit to it and take the leap and invest in giving yourself the freedom to do what you need to do and allow others to handle what they're trained to do."
